mostly about the cows

On Saturday morning I took a bus to Gatsibo in the eastern province to attend a dowry introduction. The bride and groom's families got together to hash out the details of their union. And generally have a good time. Singing, dancing, eating, and the exchange of livestock ensued. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the day.

Here is the bride being escorted by the equivalent of her bridal party. She is also followed by a pretty epic dance party.

The cows were a pretty serious highlight to the experience. The ceremony was interesting, the food was good, the people were warm and welcoming as I have come to love about Rwandese. But the cows were fantastic.

After the ceremony was over and I changed out of my outfit, I was fortunate enough to try said cows' milk. I wasn't entirely enthusiastic about drinking a liter of warm thick milk in 90 degree heat but the taste was well worth the unfortunate feelings afterward.

The bride lived on a farm in a very rural part of Gatsibo. The surroundings presented an ideal opportunity for some photography

Of course Sunday involved me playing soccer mom at a football game. The match was at an elementary school so some of the children were there to play a bit before the game and cheer on their team. Which was not ours. They won.

I got bored during the game decided to go exploring. I found a pretty bird hanging out in a tree. And walked through grass that gave me an unpleasant rash. But the bird part is a plus.

I apologize for the lack of narrative. With classes and internship I am all typed out at the minute. Enjoy the pictures.

Do you have to take your malaria pills when you are out doing an activity like going to the wedding or a soccer game?
